Katie Boulter advanced to the second round of the Hong Kong Open with a straight-sets victory over Viktorija Golubic, overcoming a frustrating incident that 'got under her skin.' The British No 1, ranked 49th in the world and seeded eighth, was twice broken when serving for the match after complaining to the umpire about a noise distraction. Despite the setback, Boulter held her nerve to win 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), securing her fourth win in five matches. The victory follows her recent semi-final run at the Japan Open, where she reclaimed the top British ranking from Sonay Kartal.
Boulter noted the end-of-season fatigue made it harder to move past the controversial point decision, but she ultimately prevailed. She will face American Claire Liu in the next round.
