Jonbon wins Ascot Clarence House Chase

Jonbon secured a dramatic Clarence House Chase victory at Ascot after Il Etait Temps, the 2-5 favourite, fell two fences from home. With Harry Cobden injured, James Bowen took the ride for Nicky Henderson and guided the ten-year-old to a three-length win over Thistle Ask.

The race delivered late drama as Il Etait Temps, who had beaten Jonbon twice last season, looked set to challenge before his fall. Henderson admitted fearing for Jonbon's unbeaten-in-first-two record, but the veteran chaser's stamina prevailed in a gruelling end-to-end gallop.

Attention now turns to the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, where Jonbon has yet to win despite 11 Grade One triumphs. Henderson believes his charge deserves another shot at the Festival's flagship race, hoping for better luck than previous Cheltenham visits.
