Former boxing world champion Joe Cordina has pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault by beating. Cordina, 34, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court and denied the charges, which relate to an incident outside Pentwyn Service Station in Cardiff on February 27.

Also appearing was Jamie O'Brien, 32, who faces assault charges in connection with the same incident. The court heard the offences were alleged to be against each other. Cordina's trial is set for October 13, and he was granted unconditional bail.

Separately, Cordina was scheduled to fight for the WBO lightweight title against Abdullah Mason in the United States on July 4. However, his application for a US visa has been refused, preventing the fight from proceeding as planned.
