Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is set to miss the remainder of the 2026 NFL season after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli.

The Eagles and Hurts' agent Nicole Lynn released a joint statement on Monday saying he will be placed on blood thinners and is unable to play football until his recovery. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Hurts is out for the rest of the year and was in hospital until 4am before Philadelphia's defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

The statement said Hurts was first diagnosed by specialists in London with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis. Further testing revealed the current diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. He is clinically stable, has no significant functional limitations, and is expected to make a full recovery with no long-term effects anticipated. He will not be allowed to take part in any contact activities, including football.

Hurts started the game in London despite not sleeping, throwing for 220 yards and a touchdown before Cam Little's last-second field goal gave Jacksonville a 19-17 victory. Hurts won Super Bowl LIX MVP in February 2025, throwing for 293 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said he has the utmost confidence in backup Tanner McKee but admitted, "I miss him." Sirianni noted that he and Hurts have worked together for six years as head coach and quarterback, and said he hopes Hurts continues to improve.
