Paul, coming off a sixth-round knockout loss to Anthony Joshua in December 2025, claimed Ngannou ran from a potential fight before his Joshua bout. The YouTuber-turned-boxer reminded Ngannou that he lasted longer against Joshua than the former UFC champion did.

Ngannou suffered an emphatic second-round knockout to Joshua in March 2024, a fact Paul used to taunt his rival. The Cameroonian fighter, who makes his MMA return against Philipe Lins on May 16, responded angrily to Paul's comments.
