Jai Opetaia Targets Undisputed Cruiserweight Crown First

Jai Opetaia has made it clear he won't entertain heavyweight ambitions until he's cleaned up the cruiserweight division. The IBF champion, already considered the world's top 200-pounder, is focused on becoming undisputed in his weight class before even thinking about a potential showdown with Oleksandr Usyk. Opetaia dismissed speculation about a Usyk fight as 'silly' and 'disrespectful,' emphasizing that both fighters are on different career paths.

On Sunday night in Las Vegas, Opetaia faces American contender Brandon Glanton for the inaugural Zuffa Boxing title, which he believes will mark 'a new chapter in boxing.' The Australian is determined to be the first to hold the Zuffa belt and potentially the first undisputed champion with that distinction. He's currently awaiting confirmation on whether his IBF championship will also be on the line in this next fight.

Opetaia has criticized former champion Chris Billam-Smith for avoiding a unification bout when he held a belt, instead taking a risky fight with Gilberto Ramirez that he lost. 'Now he doesn't have a belt, now he wants to fight!' Opetaia said, adding that he's never hand-picked opponents and simply trains hard for whoever gets put in front of him. His first challenge this year comes against Glanton, an opponent who has never been stopped, though Opetaia insists he's prepared for 12 hard rounds rather than chasing knockouts.
