Ireland rugby union has secured the long-term futures of four key players by extending their contracts. Bundee Aki, Josh van der Flier, Jamison Gibson-Park, and Dan Sheehan have all agreed to new deals. Connacht flanker Aki signed a one-year extension, while Leinster stars van der Flier and Gibson-Park committed to two-year contracts until the end of the 2027/28 season. Sheehan secured a three-year deal until 2028/29. All four were pivotal in Ireland's recent Six Nations Grand Slam and the British and Irish Lions tour to Australia. Aki, capped 69 times, and van der Flier, with 79 caps, are World Rugby's top players.

Gibson-Park and Sheehan, established internationals, form a core part of Andy Farrell's World Cup plans. Farrell praised their leadership and contributions, stating their commitment is a 'significant boost' for Ireland's ambitions. IRFU performance director David Humphreys highlighted the extensions as vital for planning towards Rugby World Cup 2027 and beyond, citing the players' professionalism and the provinces' competitive environments.
