FIFA president Gianni Infantino is holding a crisis meeting with senior staff in Rabat, Morocco, on Wednesday amid mounting pressure. The meeting follows the withdrawal of his controversial plan to create FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), a company to run commercial and operational aspects of tournaments, which would have involved selling a stake to private investors.

Criticism has come from various quarters, including Arsene Wenger, FIFA's chief of global football development, and Mattias Grafstrom, Infantino's number two. Jordan's football association president, Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, accused FIFA of "blackmailing" them over World Cup money in exchange for support. Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has backed Lise Klaveness to replace Infantino.

Infantino's position appears precarious, with speculation about his potential resignation. UEFA has also threatened legal action and demanded documents related to the FFE project. The controversy has led to a significant backlash, with several confederations opposing the FFE plan.
