Lewis Hamilton has launched an impassioned defence of Frederic Vasseur as Ferrari's team principal, stating he would like to see other structural changes at the team instead. Speaking ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, Hamilton welcomed Ferrari's public move to silence recent criticism and speculation, saying external negativity was 'trying to break our spirit' but 'not succeeding'. He affirmed that Vasseur is 'the guy to lead us' and doing a 'fantastic job', adding that the team is unified and working hard internally.
Hamilton emphasized that success is not down to one person, saying 'it's lots and lots of people coming together' and if criticism is to be directed, it should be 'pointed somewhere else', noting that those above Vasseur also share responsibility. He confirmed his commitment to the team, stating he is 'here to stay with him' and still believes fully in Ferrari's direction. Former Renault and Sauber chief Vasseur is in his fourth season at Maranello since replacing Mattia Binotto in 2023, having previously worked with Hamilton in F3 and F2 in 2005-2006 before their reunion when Hamilton joined Ferrari from Mercedes last year.
