Shai Gilgeous-Alexander became the 14th player in NBA history to win consecutive Most Valuable Player awards, continuing a remarkable international dominance in the league. The Oklahoma City Thunder star secured 83 of 100 first-place votes in the balloting, marking the eighth straight season a player born outside the United States claimed the prestigious honor.

Nikola Jokic finished third in the voting while Victor Wembanyama placed fourth. Luka Doncic came in fourth overall, with Cade Cunningham fifth after receiving two first-place votes - the first by an American-born player since 2021. The Thunder are reigning champions, adding significance to Gilgeous-Alexander's individual achievement.

"Basketball's obviously a team sport," Gilgeous-Alexander said during the celebration. "All the numbers, all the accolades, everything that I do on the court, if we won 10 games I wouldn't be in this conversation." Coach Mark Daigneault praised his growth, noting "who he is has never changed" as he continues to refine his game.
