French Open: Korpatsch Refuses Handshake After Line Call Dispute

German player Tamara Korpatsch refused to shake hands with Wang Xinyu following her 6-2 2-6 6-3 second-round victory at the French Open. The controversy stemmed from a contentious line call in the opening set when Wang questioned a call that went against her. Wang crossed the net to inspect the ball mark on Korpatsch's side, receiving a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The disagreement escalated as both players disputed the call. Korpatsch maintained she saw the ball land outside the baseline, noting two ball marks on the court. Chair umpire Aurelie Tourte confirmed the call was out, with television replays showing the ball landed approximately eight millimeters outside the line. Unlike other Grand Slams, the French Open doesn't use electronic line calling, relying instead on ball traces on clay.

After the match, Korpatsch defended her actions, stating she resented being portrayed as an unfair player. "I don't know how to cheat," she said, noting the presence of cameras would make cheating detectable. With the handshake snub, Korpatsch advanced to the third round where she will face seventh seed Elina Svitolina.
