Sky in Italy reports that the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has held talks with former Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola about becoming their national team head coach. Legendary defender Paolo Maldini and advisor Leonardo reportedly met with Guardiola in Barcelona. Guardiola, fluent in Italian and with past playing experience in Serie A, would be the second non-Italian to manage the national team if appointed.

Meanwhile, England's manager Thomas Tuchel faces criticism after their World Cup semi-final loss. Former England captain Wayne Rooney suggested the FA might pursue Guardiola if Tuchel were replaced, stating, "If Pep is available, then maybe you go and get him." The FA had previously approached Guardiola before hiring Tuchel.

Guardiola recently ended a successful 10-year spell at Manchester City, citing exhaustion. International management, with its less frequent intensity, could be a potential return to the game for the highly decorated manager, who has won 12 league titles and multiple Champions League titles. His immediate task with Italy would be qualifying for Euro 2028.
