With England's Test team rebuilding after their Ashes defeat, several county players are positioning themselves for recalls when New Zealand visits in June. Rob Key, England's managing director of cricket, has namechecked several candidates during recent media appearances, signaling potential changes to a batting lineup that struggled in Australia.

Among the batters pushing for selection, Glamorgan's Asa Tribe stands out after averaging over 45 in 2025 with two centuries and three fifties. The 24-year-old Jersey international also hit a hundred for the England Lions in Australia this winter. Other contenders include Surrey's Dom Sibley and Nottinghamshire's Haseeb Hameed, who both topped 1,200 runs in Division One last season, though neither has featured in the Bazball era.

In the bowling department, Essex's Sam Cook presents an intriguing case. The metronome-like seamer took 328 first-class wickets at 20.64 but hasn't played for England since a brief Zimbabwe tour. Meanwhile, Sussex's Ollie Robinson, despite being out of favor for two years due to fitness and personality issues, remains a potent option with 76 Test wickets at under 23. The spin stocks appear particularly thin following England's decision to omit Shoaib Bashir from the entire Ashes campaign.
