Ellie Scotney stands on the precipice of British boxing history. If she wins her upcoming fight against Mexico's Mayelli Flores at Kensington's Olympia on Sunday, April 5th, live on Sky Sports, she will become Britain's youngest ever undisputed world champion across the four major belts: WBA, WBO, WBC, and IBF at 122lbs. Scotney's journey has been extraordinary, marked by resilience.

Leaving the Great Britain amateur squad in early 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic abruptly halted her professional debut. Instead of training, she found herself working at B&Q, the hardware store, a stark contrast to her dreams. 'It was a nightmare,' Scotney admitted. 'I used to blag it. Someone could ask me a question and I'd tell them to go that end of the store knowing it weren't there and I'd hide.' This detour only fueled her determination.

When her pro career finally began late in 2020, Scotney advanced at a remarkable pace, winning the European title in her sixth fight and then capturing her first world championship belt, the IBF, before adding the WBC and WBO belts by defeating each reigning champion along the way. Her path to undisputed status has been deliberate, a 'right way' she believes in. 'I've never had the easy touch but again I'm grateful,' Scotney stated, reflecting on her journey. 'It's took a lot longer than I thought it would but again it's took the right time.' This monumental fight holds deep personal significance. Scotney made a promise to her grandmother, a lifelong fan, that she would win every major title.

Sadly, her grandmother passed away shortly after witnessing Scotney win her first world title, leaving Scotney determined to complete the collection. 'It's took a lot longer than I thought it would but again it's took the right time,' Scotney reiterated. 'God willing the collection will be completed on April 5th.' The fight falls on Easter Sunday, a day Scotney will spend in church with her pastor before the biggest fight of her life.
