The match saw multiple interruptions, including one just before De Minaur served for the match at 5-1 in the second set. Upon resumption, Fery rallied to win five consecutive games and force a tiebreak, but De Minaur's experience prevailed. The 27-year-old Australian will next face the winner of Arthur Fils versus Jiri Lehecka in the last-16 round.

Fery's strong performance follows his run to the Wimbledon semi-finals in July, and he has already been named to Great Britain's Davis Cup squad for the upcoming tie against Ecuador, alongside Cameron Norrie and doubles specialists Henry Patten and Lloyd Glasspool.
