Formula 1 returns to Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix, marking the first Sprint weekend of the 2026 season. George Russell and Mercedes lead the championship after a dramatic season opener in Melbourne, where new cars and engines made their debut. The Shanghai International Circuit presents a different challenge with its long high-speed corners and sweeping turns that demand excellent aerodynamic balance.

Ferrari impressed in Melbourne and returns to the scene of Lewis Hamilton's best performance for them last year, when he won the Sprint. McLaren and Red Bull aim for stronger showings after struggling with the new 2026 regulations. The Sprint format features one practice session, Sprint Qualifying on Friday, and a 19-lap Sprint on Saturday before the traditional 56-lap Grand Prix on Sunday.

All action will be live on Sky Sports F1 with comprehensive coverage across the three-day weekend. The F1 Academy series also races in Shanghai, opening its fourth season with two races. Weather conditions are expected to be cool and dry, with air temperatures around 18°C throughout the weekend, potentially affecting tyre strategies and car setups.
