Charley Hull and Lottie Woad will be left cursing a 'missed opportunity' to claim a maiden major win at the AIG Women's Open, according to Dame Laura Davies. Both finished four strokes behind eventual champion Shiho Kuwaki (-5) in tied-sixth at Royal Lytham & St Annes, failing to mount a final-round charge on Sunday.

Hull started with a birdie but posted two double-bogeys at three and seven, sunk her challenge despite 17 birdies over the week. Woad, meanwhile, fell away after starting at three under, unable to build on her position as she posted her first over-par round of the week.

Davies noted that 'five under has won it', adding that Hull 'played a little bit in and out' while Woad 'was really solid, she just didn't hole enough putts.' Despite the disappointment, 22-year-old Woad has secured her debut Solheim Cup spot for Team Europe.

The Ladies European Tour stays in England for the PIF London Championship, while the LPGA takes a week off before the Standard Portland Classic begins August 13-16.
