Carragher: Maddison key to Tottenham survival

Jamie Carragher believes James Maddison could play a crucial role in Tottenham's fight against relegation. The north London side secured their first win of 2026 with a 1-0 victory at Wolves, but injury crisis continues to hamper their survival hopes. With Xavi Simons ruled out for the season and the World Cup, Spurs sit just two points above the relegation zone with four games remaining.

Carragher highlighted Tottenham's misfortune with injuries, noting three players in the same position have suffered ACL problems. Summer signing Mohammed Kudus and captain Cristian Romero also face extended absences. Maddison, sidelined since August with a torn ACL, has been included in recent squads but not yet deemed fit enough to return. Carragher sees him as the only player capable of producing "magic" in critical matches.

The Sky Sports pundit questioned who will score goals for Spurs, particularly in away fixtures against Aston Villa and Chelsea. Despite their Wolves victory, Carragher remains concerned about Tottenham's attacking output compared to rivals West Ham and Nottingham Forest. With two home games against Leeds and Everton to come, survival bid faces significant challenges as the season approaches its conclusion.
