BHA Chair Resigns After Six Months

Lord Charles Allen has resigned as chair of the British Horseracing Authority after less than six months in the role. The appointment was made last September after a search process, with Allen taking over at a critical time for the sport's governance.

The resignation stems from member organizations' inability to agree on rule changes that would allow for a completely independent board and commercial remit. Unanimous support was required among the Racecourse Association, Racehorse Owners Association, Thoroughbred Breeders Association, and licensed personnel, but consensus could not be reached.

David Jones, BHA's senior independent director, thanked Allen for his contribution while expressing regret that governance changes couldn't be implemented. The board will now discuss interim arrangements, leaving the sport's leadership structure in flux as internal disagreements persist.
