President Joan Laporta confirmed their initial offer of over £100m is still on the table, with indications of a potential increase to more than £110m (€130m) plus bonuses.

However, negotiations are complicated by a strained relationship between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, who are reportedly unwilling to sell. Real Madrid previously had a £130m (€150m) bid rejected for Alvarez. Laporta believes Atletico's reluctance stems from a lack of identified replacement, while Atletico's CEO accused Barcelona of disrespect.

Alvarez's reported dream is to join Barcelona, with his family preferring to stay in Spain, posing a hurdle for Arsenal and PSG. Atletico, however, might be more open to selling to English or French clubs if Alvarez pushes for a move. Currently, Alvarez and his family are not keen on moving to England or France, making his future at Atletico dependent on either the player or the club shifting their stance.
