Virgil van Dijk praised Liverpool’s summer signings Jérémy Jacquet and Ronald Araújo after a 2-0 win over Como. Each played 45 minutes of the final preseason clash, with Jacquet scoring the Reds’ second goal. Araújo, on a season‑long loan from Barcelona, replaced him in the second half.

Van Dijk said they need to "build relationships" by playing games, noting that games differ from training. He highlighted the importance of time for a solid centre‑back partnership and that the process is normal.

He added that Jacquet’s English is a bit better than Araújo’s but both are good footballers, and that forming a connection takes time. The captain also praised the team’s improved fitness after two straight preseason defeats.

Looking ahead, Liverpool will face Newcastle at St James’ Park, with Van Dijk stressing the need for compactness and timing to maintain intensity throughout the season.
