Sophia Wilson scored her 25th international goal in the second minute to give the USWNT an early lead against Brazil in Sao Paulo, returning from maternity leave with a dream start. Wilson's strike marked her first goal since 2024 and made her the ninth mother to score for the women's national team.

Brazil responded swiftly with Taina Maranhão leveling the match in the 11th minute before Zaneratto put the host nation ahead 2-1. The Americans failed to find an equalizer despite scoring first, continuing their winless streak in Brazil that now stretches to four games dating back to 1997.

The match reunited Mallory Swanson with Wilson and Trinity Rodman for the first time since the 2024 Olympics, though Swanson remained on the bench. Trinity Rodman was subbed out late but deemed "fine" by team officials. The USWNT will face Brazil again in Fortaleza on Tuesday before beginning their World Cup qualifying campaign in late November.
