Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of Portugal's squad for March World Cup warm-up games against Mexico and the United States due to a right hamstring injury. The 41-year-old forward, who sustained the muscular problem while playing for Al Nassr on Feb. 28, has undergone treatment in Madrid but remains unavailable.

Portugal coach Roberto Martínez reassured fans that Ronaldo is not at risk of missing what will be a record sixth World Cup. 'It's a minor muscle injury, and we think he can be back in a week or two,' Martínez said when announcing his 27-man squad. The all-time leading scorer in men's international football with 143 goals has missed Portugal's last game through suspension.

The squad features in-form Al Nassr teammate João Félix and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, who has seven goals and 16 assists in 27 league games this season. West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes earned his first call-up, while Real Sociedad's Gonçalo Guedes returns to the national team for the first time since 2022.
