Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme pledged to appoint Jürgen Klopp as manager if he wins Sunday's election against incumbent Florentino Pérez. Riquelme stated his chosen sporting director, former Madrid striker Raúl González, would contact Klopp the day after a potential victory, despite the former Liverpool boss retiring in 2024.

Riquelme emphasized Madrid's unique appeal to Klopp, calling it "the only institution capable of uniting tradition and future." However, Klopp's agent Marc Kosicke immediately denied any possibility, stating Klopp is happy in his Red Bull role and has no ambitions to return to club management, calling Riquelme's statement "annoying."

The election marks Madrid's first contested vote in 20 years, following two trophyless seasons under Pérez. Pérez countered by promising José Mourinho would become coach if re-elected, with Benfica requiring a €15 million release clause. The winner will oversee significant squad changes, with Pérez guaranteeing a €150m signing if he remains in power.
