Paul Pogba has departed AS Monaco after the club terminated his contract a year early, making him a free agent ahead of the new Ligue 1 season. The French club stated they "jointly concluded that the objectives initially set were only partially achieved," referencing Pogba's limited impact during his tenure. He played just six times for Monaco in 2025-26, struggling to regain form after serving an 18-month doping ban related to DHEA use. The former France international joined Monaco last summer following his suspension, which was originally four years but reduced on appeal.

Pogba expressed gratitude to the club, saying, "Representing this club and the principality was an incredible experience. AS Monaco is an incredible club and although I did not play as many games as I had hoped, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to wear their colours."

Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro praised Pogba's positive influence, particularly on younger players, stating, "What he brought to the dressing room, particularly to the younger players with whom he constantly shared his vast experience and offered valuable advice, was precious. His attitude was exemplary throughout."

The 2018 World Cup winner previously played for Manchester United and Juventus in two separate spells before his brief return to professional football with Monaco.
