Ona Batlle has completed a free transfer to Arsenal after her Barcelona contract expired, ending a second spell at the Catalan club. The 26-year-old Spain international, who previously played for Manchester United, becomes the latest high-profile departure from Barça's dominant side.

The move continues a pipeline of talent flowing from Barcelona to London. Mariona Caldentey made the same switch to Arsenal in 2024, while Lucy Bronze and Keira Walsh joined Chelsea, and two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas announced a move to London City Lionesses. Barcelona had pushed to extend Batlle's deal but could not convince her to stay.

Batlle leaves after over 100 appearances across two stints, helping the club secure three consecutive Liga F titles. Her versatility — capable of starting at right-back or left-back — made her a fixture in a side that has dominated Spanish women's football. She originally came through La Masia before departing for Madrid CFF in 2017, then Levante and United, returning as a free agent in 2023.

Arsenal gains a proven winner entering her prime, addressing defensive depth with a player who knows the WSL. Barcelona must now rely on academy product Aïcha Cámara or dip into the market to fill a void left by one of Europe's most reliable full-backs.
