Real Madrid got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Alavés at the Bernabéu on Tuesday. Kylian Mbappé broke his scoring drought with a deflected goal in the 30th minute, and Vinícius Junior doubled the lead after halftime. The win moves Madrid to within six points of Barcelona, who play Wednesday against Celta Vigo.

The result ends a four-game winless streak that included a painful Champions League quarterfinal exit against Bayern Munich. Madrid had also drawn 1-1 with Girona and lost 2-1 at Mallorca in their previous two league matches. The Bernabéu crowd grew anxious early as Alavés created chances, with some fans even jeering during the sluggish start.

Mbappé's strike was his 24th league goal, keeping him as the division's top scorer. Vinícius had gone six games without scoring between club and country before his long-range strike in the 50th minute. Alavés, sitting one point above the relegation zone, pulled one back through Toni Martínez in stoppage time. Éder Militão was forced off before halftime with an injury Madrid said did not appear serious.

Madrid's victory provides a much-needed confidence boost after a turbulent month, though the gap to Barcelona remains significant with ten games remaining.
