Manchester United are in discussions with Brighton regarding a potential transfer for midfielder Carlos Baleba, according to sources speaking with ESPN. The 22-year-old Cameroon international, who joined Brighton from Lille in 2023, has made 92 Premier League appearances over three seasons. United's renewed interest follows a previous inquiry last summer that stalled when Brighton valued him at £100 million ($136m).

Sources indicate Brighton may now be open to a reduced offer. Baleba is currently recovering from an ankle injury sustained during preseason training. United have already invested £85 million in midfield reinforcements this summer, bringing in Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.

In addition to pursuing Baleba, United are reportedly exploring options for a left-back to challenge Luke Shaw's position. The club's transfer activity continues ahead of their opening Premier League fixture against newly-promoted Hull City on Saturday.
