Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola called Joe Gomez's early injury "the worst news" after the defender was forced off inside eight minutes of Saturday's 4-2 preseason victory over Sunderland in Nashville. The Reds now face an anxious wait to determine the severity of Gomez's problem.

New signing Jérémy Jacquet, who joined in a £55 million move from Rennes, was held out as a precaution after missing the second half of last season with a shoulder injury. Iraola said Jacquet will likely feature in the final game of the club's U.S. tour.
