Liverpool have signed Denise O'Sullivan from North Carolina Courage, the clubs confirmed Saturday. The 31-year-old midfielder arrives as NC Courage’s all-time appearance leader with 186 games over nine seasons.

O’Sullivan brings 128 caps with the Republic of Ireland and captained Courage before departing. She joins a Liverpool side struggling at the bottom of the Women’s Super League, winless in 12 matches.

Her addition follows the loan signing of Martha Thomas from Tottenham. Liverpool hopes veteran leadership and skill can spark a turnaround in a critical phase of their season.
