The former Barcelona striker, who won three La Liga titles with the club, cited a desire for a new experience outside Europe as a key factor in his move.

Lewandowski consulted former teammates Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Müller, who spoke highly of Chicago and the MLS. He expressed excitement about the new chapter for himself and his family, hoping to win titles with the Fire.

Manager Gregg Berhalter hailed Lewandowski's signing as "massive," anticipating he will elevate the team's culture and professionalism. Berhalter also sees potential for a potent strike partnership between Lewandowski and current top scorer Hugo Cuypers, even experimenting with a two-striker system in training. Lewandowski acknowledges an adaptation period but remains focused on performing on the pitch.
