Dual-nationals Brian Gutiérrez and Richard Ledezma have finalized their one-time switch from the United States to Mexico's national team, the Mexican federation confirmed. FIFA has approved the move for the Chivas teammates, who were called up for recent friendlies against Panama and Bolivia. Both players previously represented the US at youth and senior levels.

The switch comes as both players have recently joined Mexican club Chivas, which likely influenced their decision. Ledezma made one senior appearance for the U.S. in 2020, while Gutiérrez earned two caps in 2025. Neither seemed in coach Mauricio Pochettino's plans for the upcoming World Cup.

With the switch finalized, both players are now eligible for selection by Mexico manager Javier Aguirre for the World Cup opener against South Africa on June 11. This move strengthens Mexico's depth ahead of the tournament while leaving the U.S. squad looking elsewhere for talent.
