Lauren James says her calm, laid-back demeanor is often mistaken for indifference, but she is deeply passionate about football. Speaking to ESPN at Chelsea's training ground in Cobham, the 25-year-old England international explained that her body language can appear detached, even when her mind is constantly active. "It looks like I don't care, but actually I'm so passionate," she said, adding that she struggles to switch off, even on holiday in Turks and Caicos. James reflected on her journey, including becoming Arsenal's second-youngest ever player at 16, playing for Manchester United, winning silverware with Chelsea, and facing racism and backlash after her red card against Nigeria in the 2023 Women's World Cup.

She also discussed the pressure of being the sister of Chelsea men's defender Reece James. Despite years in the spotlight, many still misunderstand her. James admitted she is an overthinker, with her brain "always going," which doesn't always match her outward calm.

However, she noted a positive shift: she is becoming more comfortable expressing herself, a change observed by England and Chelsea teammate Lucy Bronze, who praised her growth and maturity. James emphasized that those close to her know her true dedication, regardless of how she appears.
