New signing João Gomes made his Aston Villa debut in a dominant 5-0 preseason victory over Walsall. Manager Unai Emery utilized a mix of established players and emerging talent, making 10 substitutions at halftime.

Seventeen-year-old Brian Madjo was a standout in the first half, scoring twice, including the opener from a Kosta Nedeljković cross. George Hemmings added a second, and Madjo completed his brace shortly after. Gomes, acquired from Wolves for £34 million ($40m), played his first 45 minutes for Villa in the second half. Luka Lynch and Aidan Borland added further goals, with Borland's being a particularly impressive strike.

While Tai Sodje had a chance for Walsall, the hosts were largely outmatched. The match provided valuable playing time for both squads. Shortly after the final whistle, Aston Villa confirmed the transfer of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for £117 million ($157.28m). Walsall will face AFC Telford next, while Aston Villa prepares for a match against Porto in Portugal.
