Hakimi Trial Ordered: PSG Star Faces Rape Allegation

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi will stand trial over rape allegations dating back to February 2023. The Morocco international, who denies the accusations, stated he will "allow the truth to come out publicly" after learning of the court order. The case involves claims by a then-24-year-old woman who alleged Hakimi assaulted her at his home in southeast Paris.

French prosecutors confirmed the trial has been ordered, while Hakimi's lawyer Fanny Colin argued the accusation "rests solely on the word of a woman who obstructed all investigations." Colin noted the plaintiff refused medical examinations, DNA testing, and access to her mobile phone. The plaintiff's attorney Rachel-Flore Pardo welcomed the trial order "with relief," calling it "fully consistent with the evidence in the file."

Hakimi was given preliminary charges of rape in March 2023, a step in the French legal system where judges suspect a crime was committed but allow time for further investigation. The case has sparked broader discussions about accountability in men's professional football, with Pardo noting "environments where the Me Too movement has yet to break the sound barrier." PSG coach Luis Enrique declined to comment on whether the case affects Hakimi's role as vice captain, stating only that "this is in the hands of the justice system."
