Antoine Griezmann played his final home game for Atlético Madrid, receiving an emotional tribute after their 1-0 win over Girona. The all-time leading goalscorer admitted the affection he feels for the club is "worth more" than any trophies he could have won, despite never claiming LaLiga or Champions League titles.

Griezmann formally apologized to fans for his 2019 move to Barcelona, calling it a "mistake" made when he was "very young." The French forward returned to Atlético in 2021 after two seasons at Camp Nou, having won the Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and Spanish Supercopa with his first stint at the club.

Coach Diego Simeone described Griezmann as "possibly the best player we've had here," while teammates praised his contributions. The 32-year-old finished third in the Ballon d'Or rankings in 2016 and 2018, with goalkeeper Jan Oblak stating he "should have won a Ballon d'Or" before his summer move to Orlando City.
