A coroner has ruled that heading the ball likely contributed to the brain injury that was a factor in the death of former Scotland defender Gordon McQueen. McQueen, who played for Manchester United and Leeds during his career, died in June 2023 at the age of 70. The inquest determined pneumonia caused his death, stemming from vascular dementia and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
