Marcelo Flores left the field in the second half of the Concacaf Champions Cup final as Tigres faced Toluca, clutching his right knee after his foot caught on the grass. The 23‑year‑old went down while dribbling inside the box, unable to bear weight, and was helped off by the medical team. The injury came just 15 minutes after his substitution.

Canada coach Jesse Marsch confirmed Flores on the 26‑player World Cup roster on Friday, joining captain Alphonso Davies who is battling his own fitness ahead of the June 12 opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Flores, born in Canada to a Mexican father, switched allegiance from Mexico after a delayed FIFA approval, debuting in March against Iceland and Tunisia.

The injury worries a Canada side hosting the tournament with the United States and Mexico. In Group B with Switzerland, Qatar and Bosnia, the squad cannot lose another starter as they aim to surpass the 2022 performance. Marsch must decide whether to replace Flores, likely turning to an MLS forward already training in Canada.

Canada co‑hosts the 2026 World Cup with the United States and Mexico, and enters Group B alongside Switzerland, Qatar and Bosnia. The squad hopes to improve on its 2022 run, and any loss of depth before the June 12 opener could complicate preparations for the host nation.
