Mexico's all-time leading goal scorer Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, 38, is signing with USL Championship expansion side Atletico Dallas, the club announced Monday. The striker posted on social media: "Hey Dallas, I'm here. Very excited to make history with you."

Hernandez becomes the first signing for Atletico Dallas, who will debut in the second-tier USL Championship in 2027. Former La Liga and Ligue 1 player Peter Luccin was named the team's first manager in February. The move marks the ninth club of Hernandez's career, which includes spells at Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, and most recently Chivas, where he last played in November 2025.

After scoring just three goals for Chivas in 2025, Hernandez aims to rekindle his form. He previously called his 2020 LA Galaxy move the "beginning of retirement" but has not officially ended his international career, last earning a Mexico call-up in 2019. He served as a Fox analyst during the 2026 World Cup, where Mexico fell to England in the round of 16. The signing also follows a fine from the Mexican Football Federation for "sexist" comments earlier this year.
