Multiple sources tell ESPN that Blackmon, who had two years remaining on his original deal, ultimately signed a contract with a sizable raise but not matching Miami's offer.

Blackmon's contract saga included him missing a scheduled medical before training camp, though he completed it the following day and continued preseason training with Vancouver. The 27-year-old defender has been a Whitecaps mainstay since joining from LAFC in 2022, earning Defender of the Year honors in 2025 and making his first two appearances for the U.S. men's national team last September. He played the full 90 minutes in Vancouver's first two competitive matches this season.

The deal allows Blackmon to focus on helping Vancouver build on their recent success, including reaching the Concacaf Champions League and MLS Cup finals last season. With the contract secured, Blackmon can now concentrate on making the U.S. World Cup roster, where he competes with Augsburg's Noahkai Banks and Celtic's Auston Trusty for what is likely the fifth and final center-back spot. U.S. head coach Mauricio Pochettino will name his roster for upcoming matches against Belgium and Portugal in March.
