Barcelona Complete €70m Anthony Gordon Signing from Newcastle

Anthony Gordon arrived in Barcelona on Thursday to complete his €70 million transfer from Newcastle United, with add-ons potentially taking the fee to €80 million. The 25-year-old England forward will undergo his medical before joining Hansi Flick's squad rebuild for next season. Barcelona moved quickly to finalize the deal before the World Cup, where Gordon will represent the Three Lions.

Negotiations accelerated this week after Gordon's agent Adam Dugdale met with sporting director Deco in May, followed by Deco's trip to England. Bayern Munich and Liverpool also expressed interest in the winger, but Gordon's desire to join Barca proved decisive. The clubs wanted everything wrapped before the international tournament begins.

Barcelona insist this signing doesn't impact their pursuit of a new No. 9 following Robert Lewandowski's exit. They continue tracking Julián Álvarez, João Pedro, and Harry Kane as striker targets. However, Gordon's arrival complicates Marcus Rashford's future at the club.

Rashford spent this season on loan from Manchester United, contributing 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions. Barcelona holds a €30 million option to make that deal permanent, but with Gordon, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha all favoring the left wing, significant departures would be needed to accommodate everyone.
