Alisson Injury Leaves Liverpool Goalkeeping Gap vs Galatasaray

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will miss the Champions League round of 16 first leg against Galatasaray after sustaining a training injury. The Brazil international felt minor discomfort following Monday's session at the AXA Training Centre and was not risked for the trip to Istanbul. This marks another setback in a season where Alisson has already missed nine matches through injury.

Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to make his first appearance since the FA Cup win over Barnsley two months ago. The Georgia international has kept two clean sheets in his 10 starts this season, including back-to-back appearances against Real Madrid and Aston Villa when Alisson was sidelined with a hamstring problem. Mamardashvili has featured in four of Liverpool's eight Champions League matches to date.

Forward Federico Chiesa was also absent from training after being an unused substitute in Friday's FA Cup win at Wolves. Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister trained despite being forced off with a knee problem in that match. With Alisson's absence, Liverpool face a crucial test in their Champions League campaign as they look to advance past the Turkish champions.
