Ajax Sacks Oscar Garcia After Fifth-Place Eredivisie Finish

Ajax Amsterdam confirmed Sunday they've parted ways with coach Oscar Garcia following a disappointing fifth-place finish in the Eredivisie. The club stated they mutually agreed to terminate Garcia's contract, which had one year remaining on the deal. Garcia's tenure lasted just three months after stepping in from the under-23 side.

Garcia took charge in March when Ajax needed stability after a season of upheaval. Technical director Jordi Cruijff acknowledged the difficult circumstances, praising Garcia's efforts during a challenging period for the Dutch giants. Ajax's fifth-place finish represents a significant drop for a club accustomed to competing for titles.

The coaching carousel at Ajax has been relentless. Garcia replaced Fred Grim, who returned to the academy after briefly serving as interim coach. Grim had taken over when John Heitinga was dismissed in November, following Francesco Farioli's resignation last May. Each change reflects mounting pressure at a club rebuilding after years of selling top talent.

Ajax now faces another summer of transition while searching for their fourth head coach in twelve months. The club's hierarchy must stabilize leadership to restore competitiveness in Dutch football's top tier.
