The Buffalo Sabres delivered a historic comeback in their first playoff game in 15 years, scoring four third-period goals to beat the Boston Bruins 4-3 on Sunday night. Trailing 2-0 entering the final period, the Sabres erupted with goals from Tage Thompson, Mattias Samuelsson and Alex Tuch to stun the Eastern Conference's seventh-seeded team.

Thompson sparked the rally with goals 3:42 apart, tying the game at 2-2 with 4:16 remaining. Samuelsson then gave Buffalo the lead with a snap shot from the left circle 52 seconds later, and Tuch sealed it with an empty-netter. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 17 saves, while Jeremy Swayman stopped 34 shots for Boston. David Pastrnak scored with 7 seconds left and added two assists.

The victory was Buffalo's first playoff win since a 1-0 decision against Philadelphia in 2011, snapping an NHL-record 14-season playoff drought. The Sabres won the Atlantic Division this season and improved to 33-2-4 when leading after two periods. Game 2 is Tuesday in Buffalo.
