The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced Thursday that Russia will be excluded from four world tournaments in 2027 due to ongoing safety, security, and sporting integrity concerns. The IIHF council's decision bars Russian teams from the 2027 world junior championships, world championships, and the under-18 men's and women's tournaments.

A final decision on Russia's participation in the women's world championships will be made in November. Russia has been banned from IIHF competitions since February 2022, following its invasion of Ukraine. This exclusion follows similar measures taken by other international sports federations.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently provisionally lifted a suspension on the Russian Olympic Committee. The NHL has stated it will align with decisions made by organizations like the IIHF and IOC regarding Russian participation in future events, including the World Cup of Hockey in 2028.
