Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann will miss the team's final three regular-season games with a lower-body injury, ending his season prematurely. The Kraken were already eliminated from playoff contention before their 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Saturday. At 29, McCann can now begin preparations for the 2026-27 season ahead of schedule.

McCann has been a consistent offensive force for Seattle since joining the franchise in the 2021 NHL expansion draft. He's appeared in 52 games this season, scoring 20 goals that tie him with Matty Beniers for second-most on the team. The veteran forward has reached the 20-goal mark in each of his five seasons with the Kraken, establishing himself as a regular in Seattle's top six.

McCann's most productive season came in 2022-23 when he scored a career-high 40 goals as the Kraken reached the Stanley Cup playoffs for their only postseason appearance. That year, Seattle advanced to the second round before falling to the Dallas Stars in seven games. The first-round pick from the 2014 NHL entry draft is entering the final season of his five-year, $25 million contract, making his recovery and performance next season particularly important for both player and organization.
