The Toronto Maple Leafs shipped veteran defenseman Brandon Carlo to the St. Louis Blues for picks No. 73 and 76 at the NHL Draft in Buffalo. New GM John Chayka continues his roster rebuild after last season's collapse, which saw Toronto drop 30 points in the standings and miss the playoffs.

Carlo, 29, brings experience after posting 7 assists in 55 games last season with a $3.485 million cap hit. The defensive defenseman has 119 career points across 692 games with Boston and Toronto. Chayka's fourth trade as GM follows the acquisition of Darren Raddysh's 8-year deal and reflects Toronto's pivot from contending to rebuilding.

The Blues land a reliable right-shot defender to pair with Colton Parayko and Logan Mailloux. St. Louis has been active all offseason, also acquiring center Mason McTavish. For Toronto, this move clears salary while adding draft depth as they transition under Chayka's leadership.
