The New York Islanders are engaging their fanbase in a unique initiative, launching a contest for fans to design the team's third jersey for the 2027-28 NHL season. This marks the first time a professional hockey franchise has solicited fan-created designs for an official team sweater.

The contest, announced Wednesday, saw an overwhelming response with nearly 12,000 submissions in its initial five hours. Fans have until July 24 to submit their concepts, utilizing a dedicated creator tool on the Islanders' website featuring official logos and fonts. A committee of team executives, players, and staff will narrow down entries to five finalists, with a public vote in early August determining the winning design.

Kelly Cheeseman, president of business operations for the Islanders and UBS Arena, spearheaded the campaign, drawing on a similar successful initiative with the LA Galaxy. The creator of the winning jersey will receive an autographed replica and tickets to the game where it debuts. This move signifies a direct effort to solidify fan connection with the team's identity, with the forthcoming third jersey intended to be truly representative of "Isles Nation."
