Golden Knights Rally Falls Short vs Hurricanes

The Vegas Golden Knights squandered a 2-0 third-period lead as the Carolina Hurricanes rallied for a 4-3 overtime victory in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. Vegas held a dominant 31-0-3 record this season when leading after two periods, but Carolina became the first team since 1944 to win a Final game after trailing by multiple goals in the final 10 minutes.

The game turned on a disallowed goal with five minutes remaining when Vegas forward Ivan Barbashev's attempt was waved off due to goalie interference. Coach Tortorella's challenge failed, and the NHL confirmed the call, saying Barbashev "interfered with Frederik Andersen and impaired his ability to play his position." The resulted power play led to Jordan Staal's go-ahead goal.

Despite playing without defenseman Brayden McNabb (injured by a shot to the visor), the Knights battled back to force overtime. Mark Stone tied the score with an own-goal by Jaccob Slavin. Seth Jarvis ended the game with a power-play goal. The series is now tied 1-1, marking the second Stanley Cup Final ever to begin with back-to-back multigoal comeback wins.
