Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy delivered a heroic performance Tuesday night, scoring 39 seconds into overtime to beat the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 despite losing several front teeth. The U.S. Olympian told reporters he only had time for two questions before heading back to the dentist, his mouth bloodied where his lower teeth had been knocked out.

McAvoy has endured multiple facial injuries this season, including a November incident that sidelined him for nearly a month after being hit by a slap shot. He previously wore a face shield upon returning but discarded it before taking another puck to the face against Nashville last week. The latest blow came when Kings center Samuel Helenius checked him into the glass late in the second period.

Despite the injury, McAvoy returned for the third period and positioned himself perfectly in overtime. Mark Kastelic made a long pass to David Pastrnak, who fed McAvoy as he entered the zone. The defenseman made a backhand move to secure the game-winner, extending Boston's home winning streak to 13 games and keeping them in playoff position.
